A Day in the Life of a One-Person Lanyard Empire

A Day in the Life of a One-Person Lanyard Empire

Maria Goodman

Running a sole trader business is not for the faint-hearted. When you're the boss, the workforce, and the janitor all rolled into one, every day is an adventure. In my lanyard company, I wear so many hats that I’m practically a one-person hat rack! Let’s dive into the myriad roles I take on to keep my business thriving.

The Executive

Ah, the glamorous life of an Executive… or so they say. As the visionary behind the company, I’m always thinking big picture. What’s the next move for my brand? Should I venture into eco-friendly lanyards or try bold new designs? Executive me loves a good brainstorming session over coffee, sketching out ideas that will (hopefully) dazzle my customers.

The Managerial Maven

Once the big ideas are flowing, Manager Me steps in to organize the chaos. I juggle schedules, prioritize tasks, and ensure everything’s running smoothly. It’s like playing Tetris, but instead of colorful blocks, I’m aligning supplier orders, customer queries, and production deadlines.

Operations Guru

When it’s time to get down to business, Operational Me is ready to roll. Whether it’s quality-checking lanyards, ensuring stock levels are healthy, or packing up orders with care, I’m the hands-on force making it all happen. It’s not glamorous, but it’s deeply satisfying.

Marketing Maestro

Social media posts don’t create themselves! As the Marketing Manager, I’m crafting catchy captions, designing eye-popping graphics, and keeping an eagle eye on analytics. From email campaigns to TikTok videos (yes, even safety breakaway lanyards can trend), I’m all about spreading the word.

HR Hero

Human Resources might seem redundant in a one-person company, but even I need to manage “employee” well-being (spoiler: it’s me). HR Me enforces work-life balance, ensuring that long hours are tempered with guilt-free breaks. And yes, self-care days are on the table too.

Project Planner Extraordinaire

Special orders? New product launches? Charity collaborations? That’s where Project Manager Me shines. Breaking down big tasks into actionable steps and celebrating milestones along the way makes every project feel achievable—and exciting.

Financial Wizard

When the numbers don’t add up, I’ve got only myself to blame. As the Financial Manager, I handle everything from setting budgets to managing invoices. Spreadsheets are my sidekick, and every penny is accounted for. It’s not the most fun job, but seeing profits grow is its own reward.

Product Perfectionist

In the lanyard world, details matter. As Product Manager, I’m constantly testing materials, tweaking designs, and innovating ways to make my products more durable, stylish, and unique. Whether it’s a bold print or a safety breakaway lanyard, when a customer says, “This is exactly what I was looking for,” I know I’ve nailed it.

Sales Superstar

Finally, there’s Sales Representative Me, who’s all about connecting with customers. From friendly email replies to showcasing my wares at trade shows, I’m the face of the business. Building relationships and helping people find the perfect lanyard is the cherry on top of my entrepreneurial sundae.

Wrapping It All Up

Being a sole trader means every day is an all-hands-on-deck situation. It’s challenging, rewarding, and sometimes downright exhausting, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Each role I play brings its own flavor to the business, and together, they form the recipe for success. So, the next time you see one of my safety breakaway lanyards, remember: it’s the product of an Executive, Manager, Marketer, and a dozen other titles, all rolled into one person with a passion for what they do.
